Cerro Posintepe

Daybreak in the campo

Cerro Posintepe is a small hill, as the name (cerro) suggests. We like to get away early in the AM. Miguel will collect us with his buckboard wagon, and we'll wind our way through the city to cross the urban shadow /rural divide. Then we're off down country roads to the community of Posintepe. Arriving we'll be met by Jean Carlos and Alvaro, who live in the community, and will be our guides to the summit.

The climb

Cerro Posintepe rises some 500 feet above the surrounding countryside and has a wonderful view of Granada, Las Isletas and on a clear day you can see the Masaya Volcano.

The summit site continues to play a central roll in the religious activities, especially at Easter and Christmas.
